Five Canadian Miners Found Dead in Mexico
Military forces secured the grave site over the weekend in the El Verde community, where the remains were subsequently unearthed.
Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR) confirmed the bodies were recovered through coordinated efforts involving the Federal Criminal Investigation Agency, the Ministry of Security and Civilian Protection, the Ministry of National Defense, and the National Guard.
During her regular Monday briefing, President Claudia Sheinbaum disclosed that arrests have been executed in the case, with detained suspects directing investigators to the concealed grave location.
Vizsla Silver President and CEO Michael Konnert issued a statement mourning the grim discovery while pledging continued efforts to locate the five workers still unaccounted for.
"We are devastated by this outcome and the tragic loss of life. Our deepest condolences are with our colleagues' families, friends and co-workers, and the entire community of Concordia," Konnert said.
The incident underscores Mexico's worsening disappearance epidemic, with over 130,000 individuals currently missing across the nation. Sinaloa has witnessed a dramatic surge in disappearances throughout the past two years amid escalating regional violence.
